With Halloween coming up this week, I thought I’d bring to light the tick-or-treat aspect of life. Every single day we have the ability to lean toward a trick or a treat. Not just on October 31st.
Fear, jealousy, anger, guilt, angst, boredom, frustration and many other seeming negative emotions often get the better of many of us. Sometimes they are a trick – tricking us to run away. Sometimes they are a treat -Â alerting us to something to be aware of.

Time. It’s on a continuum right? It’s sequential and moves from past to now to future. Well, that is at least what ‘they’ say. And, if calendars are anything to go by, ‘they’ are right. I know that in the reality of my world, I wake up Monday and the next day is Tuesday. I know that the month after April is May – and I know that 5 years from now will be 2017. In the reality of my world.
But is it really a continuum? I can access, with my mind, any-time. (more…)

In some little way, there are disappointments all around us. Maybe its as simple as the Corn Flake box is empty or my TV show didn’t record last night. With these, we have a way already to handle them – well, most of us do. Acceptance.
But how about with the bigger disappointments in life? How do you handle those? You know – you didn’t get the promotion you knew was going to be yours, the job you love just came to an unexpected end, a relationship ended that you thought would last a lifetime? Are you as accepting in those situations? Most likely not. If so, huge pats on the back for you! You are better at this than I am! (more…)

Once she had her ticket, she started to save again to purchase food to bring along with her. She bought bread, fruit and dried meats and brought enoughwater for her two week journey.
When she arrived on the ship she entered her tiny cabin and sorted through her food and water to divide up her bounty for the journey. She decided to not leave her little cabin for the two weeks because she needed to protect what she had. Two days before the ship docked in the US she ran out of food. But, so close to the end of her journey she made up her mind to perservere – she was almost there. (more…)

I’ve been looking back at some of my blog posts. I’ve talked about behaviours, emotions, states, skills, lots and lots of resources… today we’re looking at another aspect of us – something that is similar to a state and just as easily manageable – but not always easy to see… An attitude.
An attitude can be defined as a positive or negative evaluation of people, objects, event, activities, ideas, or just about anything in your environment. A persons attitude can drive them forward, hold them back, turn people off and even turn people on. And, interestingly, an attitude can be incongruent with a persons state. This can be confusing! Have you ever had the experience of wanting something but because you don’t have it instantly you stop or give up? Do you ever get impatient with what you are doing because its not happening quickly enough?
I hear this all the time – “if I can’t have it now, I’ll never have it.” – and you know what, with that attitude, you are right!
You know as well as I do that nothing significant happens instantly. And, most people I know wouldn’t be happy if it did. There seems to be some sort of ‘universal’ belief that if I didn’t work for it, it doesn’t count. Yet, that is so counter intuitive of “I want it now”.
After all, good things come to those who wait, right?
